Signing a contract with the Council of Europe, Germany contributed 10,000.00 Euro to the Council’s programme entitled: ‘Passing on the remembrance of the Holocaust and prevention of crimes against humanity’. The aim of the programme is to pass on to younger generations also the knowledge about these atrocious events that darkened European and world history, thus preventing the erasure of the collective memory. The events supported by Germany will take place in Tirana, Albania and in Thessaloniki, Greece.

“Based on its history, Germany has a special responsibility to ensure that the memory of the Holocaust remains present in coming generations”, explained Johann-Hinrich Ernst, the new German Chargé d’affaires to the Council of Europe when signing the contract. “We are pleased that the Council of Europe continues to take up this important issue and are proud to be able to contribute to this activity.”
